ARTISTIC Statement
As an artist I want to tell stories that will make people uncomfortable. If something makes an audience member uncomfortable then they have to do the introspection as to why they are uncomfortable. I have found when I'm uncomfortable watching a piece I learn much more about myself and the world then I may have perceived. Discomfort can cause change for the better, and that's what I hope my work would do. I'm also interested in telling stories about the LGBTQ+ and Asian community as a gay Korean man, as well as stories about people who meet in unassuming places. Furthermore, I believe the intersectionality of my homosexuality and my Christian beliefs influences my work. I feel it is important at this time to discuss how the LGBTQ+ shouldn't be excluded from religious affiliation due to their being in the LGBTQ+ community. Finally, I want to tell stories that have innate optimism because frankly I like to believe the world can be a beautiful place.
